Taking action to prevent Violence Against Women!<\/h5>\n

Members of SI Kirkcaldy and SI Dunfermline took part in the SIGBI Railway Study marking SIGBI Federation 90th Anniversary to consider whether the rail network was as safe as it should be for women and girls.\u00a0 Their findings have been published in Fife Free Press, 30 07 2026.<\/p>\n

Update on the 90kg Kilombero Rice Challenge, from True Origin, (previously known as Just Trading Scotland), 4 08 2026:<\/h5>\n
Example of the 90kg Kilombero Rice Challenge:<\/h5>\n

Many members will remember that SI Hamilton members sold 90kg Kilombero rice at the SIGBI Federation Conference Glasgow 2015.\u00a0 90kg was the amount of rice a farmer in northern Malawi had to sell to pay for a child’s secondary school education for one year at that time and since.<\/p>\n

90kg Kilombero Rice Challenge now “retired”!<\/h5>\n

From January 2026, the Government of Malawi began introducing free secondary education in state schools, abolishing tuition fees, and from April 2026, removing many other charges including examination fees.<\/p>\n
