The club held a \u201cJourneys through Literacy\u201d event in celebration of the United Nations Literacy Day 8th September 2019 jointly with Sevenoaks Library in their gallery.\u00a0https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/events\/literacyday\/<\/a><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<\/div>\n

The event could just have easily been called from \u2018Global to Local\u2019 as the 15 minute presentations covered \u2018Literacy in a pre literate society\u2019 working with an indigenous tribe in Brazil given by Margaret Alford and \u2018Bloom where you are planted\u2019 \u00a0an English speaking programme delivered by Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugess to the Syrian refugees living in the Sevenoaks area. We were so pleased to welcome two refugees, a father and daughter who spoke of their experiences and feelings of coping in a new country. \u2019Success in a turnaround school\u2019 by Sally Quirk Head Teacher St, John\u2019s Primary School, Sevenoaks. This was a story of a failing school which now has a waiting list, and \u2018Inclusive Learning that changes lives\u2019 by Dhar Sohanpal a family learning programme designed by Kent County Council Learning for semi-literate parents.<\/p>\n
