This also supports the Soroptimist International \u2018Think on It\u2019 campaign, which is focused on mental health. The theme for the week is \u201cBody Image \u2013 how we see ourselves and how that makes us feel. \u00a0Body image issues can directly impact our mental health and affect all of us at any age.\u00a0 President Penny Robbins gave details at the meeting of the Mental Health Foundation survey as below:-<\/p>\n<p>New online surveys were conducted by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.org.uk\/publications\/body-image-report\/exec-summary\">Mental Health Foundation<\/a>\u00a0with YouGov in March 2019 of 4,505 UK adults 18+ and 1,118 GB teenagers (aged 13-19). The results highlighted that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One in five adults (20%) felt shame, just over one third (34%) felt down or low, and 19% felt disgusted because of their body image in the last year.<\/li>\n<li>Among teenagers, 37% felt upset, and 31% felt ashamed in relation to their body image.<\/li>\n<li>Just over one-third of adults said they had ever felt anxious (34%) or depressed (35%) because of their body image.<\/li>\n<li>Just over one in five adults (21%) said images used in advertising had caused them to worry about their body image.<\/li>\n<li>Just over one in five adults (22%) and 40% of teenagers said images on social media caused them to worry about their body image. <a href=\"\/sevenoaks\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_1915-copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-977 size-medium\" src=\"\/sevenoaks\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_1915-copy-300x250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/sevenoaks\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_1915-copy-300x250.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/sevenoaks\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_1915-copy-768x641.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/sevenoaks\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_1915-copy-1024x854.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/sevenoaks\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_1915-copy.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Club members wore green at the club meeting in support of Mental Health Awareness week&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":451,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-976","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-club-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Mental Health Awareness Week | News | Blog | Events | SI Sevenoaks<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"SI Sevenoaks : Blog &amp; News : Mental Health Awareness Week : Keep up to date with the latest news, articles and events from the Soroptimists of SI Sevenoaks .
