Three embers of Soroptimist International of Skipton in Craven are supporting Care International\u2019s Sponsored Walk 2016, in recognition of the world\u2019s poorest countries where women and girls have to spend their days walking for water. This daily trek prevents them from going to work or school, and means they can\u2019t fulfil their potential.<\/p>\n

So, with 10,000 steps a day Members of SI Skipton are hoping to raise a goodly amount. The \u201cWalk In Her Shoes\u201d project is part of Care International\u2019s \u201cHelp Her Live Learn and Earn<\/a>\u201d campaign meaning every pound raised, between now and 4 June, will be doubled by the UK government \u2013 with the extra funds going directly to water, sanitation and women\u2019s rights projects in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

All funds raised from \u201cWalk In Her Shoes\u201d will be used as part of Care International\u2019s \u201cHelp Her Live Learn and Earn\u201d project: a campaign to introduce a number of life-changing improvements for the women and girls of the Afar region in Ethiopia \u2013 one of the most geographically remote and inhospitable areas of Africa.<\/p>\n

This project links in nicely with one of Skipton-in-Craven\u2019s President\u2019s chosen charities for her year of office – WaterAid – for which we have also raised \u00a31250.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
