Members were delighted to welcome Dave Bullock of Thames Valley Police on Wednesday night.\u00a0 Dave came to talk about two initiatives within Windsor:\u00a0 the Windsor Homelessness Project and the Windsor Street Angels.<\/p>\n
Dave set up Windsor Street Angels ten years ago with twelve volunteers and that now number has expanded to over forty.\u00a0 These members of the public are on duty every Friday and Saturday night from 9pm until the small hours of the morning.\u00a0 They work in pairs and patrol Windsor streets looking out for anyone in need of assistance.\u00a0 They carry water and pink flip-flops – the latter are in great demand by girls who have taken off their high heels and then found they cannot get them on again!!\u00a0 The flip flops help prevent cuts from broken glass and make getting home just that bit easier!\u00a0 The Street Angels can also help diffuse awkward situations that arise as groups disperse from the nightclubs and pubs late at night and they can help members of the public find their way home.\u00a0 This work also leads to interaction with people who are sleeping rough around Windsor and it was heartening to hear that there is a project to help in this area although in general it is not straightforward to rehouse those who have adjusted to living on the streets.\u00a0 However progress is being made.<\/p>\n
