Welcome to Soroptimist International Solent East. If you are looking to make a difference to the lives of others we may be the organisation that can offer you just that.
The focus of Soroptimist International is to improve the lives of women and girls. SI Solent East have fulfilled this in a number of different ways. For example, in recent years we have raised funds for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital, Macmillan Cancer Support, the Alzheimers Society and the Gosport and Fareham Inland Rescue Service. Some of our members support Fareham and Gosport Family Aid and others provide contact events for the elderly. In 2016-17 we supported the local branch of Headway, the charity that helps brain-injured people. Many of our fund raising activities are also social events, for example, we often hold a summer BBQ or something similar, we have also arranged quiz nights, a cruise on the Solent, coffee mornings, a wine tasting, as well as inter-club events.
We also support national and international projects. For example, in 2016-17 we have decided to support the international federation’s Meru Women’s Garden project to help women in a very poor part of Kenya. In the past we have supported an international project to improve maternal health in the Gambia and in a recent partnership between Soroptimist International and Hope and Homes for Children, we have been involved in ‘Project SIerra’ which aimed to raise over £1million to transform the lives of some of the most deprived women and children in the world. We have also actively raised funds for LifeStraws for use in parts of the world that do not have access to safe drinking water. Nationally, we supported Mary’s Meals, the charity that helps needy children in Malawi. See our ‘Projects’ page for more information.
We meet twice a month on Thursday evenings for a business meeting and a supper meeting where we normally have speakers who cover a wide range of topics. Soroptimist International is a great way to make friends, make a difference and have fun. If it sounds the kind of thing you would like to be involved in contact us by clicking on ‘Contact The Club’ on the left.
There is currently no president so the club is run by the executive committee.
