{"id":1506,"date":"2018-05-01T15:07:14","date_gmt":"2018-05-01T14:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/gosport-fareham-and-district\/?p=1506"},"modified":"2018-05-01T15:07:14","modified_gmt":"2018-05-01T14:07:14","slug":"plastic-pirates-and-a-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/solent-east\/2018\/05\/01\/plastic-pirates-and-a-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Plastic, pirates and a party"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><a href=\"\/gosport-fareham-and-district\/files\/2018\/05\/IMG_0010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1508\" src=\"\/gosport-fareham-and-district\/files\/2018\/05\/IMG_0010-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/solent-east\/files\/2018\/05\/IMG_0010-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/solent-east\/files\/2018\/05\/IMG_0010.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>As part of the Club&#8217;s effort to develop in challenging times, we decided to change our name from the rather cumbersome SI Gosport, Fareham and District to SI Solent East.<\/div>\n<div>We felt that this better reflected the area that we draw our membership from.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As is the Soroptimist way\u00a0 &#8211; this means a party!<\/div>\n<div>So on the 28th April we gathered at Port House in Port Solent for our event, this was also to publicise our theme of &#8216;water&#8217;. This will form the focus for the Club&#8217;s activities for the next few years at least.<\/div>\n<div>The UN has defined a number of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\">Sustainable Development Goals and number 6 is <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: small\"><b>Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. <\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #0066cc;font-size: small\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/?menu=1300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/?menu=1300<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #0066cc;font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div>Anyway back to the party &#8211; Tracy was our very capable host who managed to keep Ian Limb from Portsmouth Water from talking past his allotted time and kept everyone informed about when more food and drink would be served (very important).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Our first speaker was Ian who was asked not to talk about where our tap water comes from and instead gave us some highlights from Portsmouth Water&#8217;s history including beer, badgers and the Romans. He is a firm believer in education both here and abroad about water and how lucky we are to have clean water on tap.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Our second speaker was Bianca Carr who has recently started a campaign to highlight the growing problems caused by single use and throw away plastics.
