Soroptimists from all over the South Lancashire Region attended this year’s new members and awards lunch.
Guest speaker was Margaret Emsley, Past Federation President and a member of SI Ashton-under-Lyne club. Her topic was her route ‘through the ranks’ and what has followed on from then. For recently-joined Soroptimists this was a particularly fascinating tale – and maybe role to aspire to?
This year’s awards were presented. SI Bootle & District won the Regional President’s Challenge for their work on publicity. They received the beautiful rose bowl from Region President Sue Underwood. (photo left)
SI Crosby had already completed the ‘double’ in this year’s bowling season – the team and individual trophies. Club president Debbie Oulton took the opportunity of explaining to new members about the individual cup. It is named in honour of the late Tricia Fahey, a Past Federation President, founder of the regional bowls competition, and a member of SI Crosby.
Anne Grimes, Region Membership Officer, organised the day. “I was delighted that over 90 Soroptimists came together for this biennial event,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity for new members to learn more about the work and effectiveness of Soroptimist International. They really can feel a welcome part of our fine, friendly organisation.”
