This year\u2019s event focussed on individual players, each of whom had won at least one game over the season. On the day, eighteen Soroptimists from the region competed for the Tricia Fahey Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Tension mounted as the elimination rounds led to semi-finals involving Crosby, Widnes and Southport clubs. The final \u2013 Christine Fone (SI Widnes) v Miriam Lucy (SI Crosby) \u2013 kept all spectators \u2018on the edge\u2019, and resulted in a win for Christine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-team-winners.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2377 alignleft\" src=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-team-winners-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"bowls team winners\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-team-winners-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-team-winners.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Regional President Victoria Smerdon opened the celebrations by presenting the President\u2019s Rose Bowl to SI Leigh, for coming out top in the season\u2019s team competition. Margaret Molyneux and her squad were absolutely delighted to take home the silverware.<a href=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-individual-winner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2378\" src=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-individual-winner-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"bowls individual winner\" width=\"270\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-individual-winner-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-individual-winner.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>President Victoria then invited Shirley Smith (SI Crosby\u2019s bowls captain) to join her in presenting Christine Fone with her well-earned trophy. The Tricia Fahey Cup commemorates Tricia of SI Crosby who, when regional president, devised the regional bowls competition.<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of all the teams Dorothy Lee-Ogden (SI Southport) thanked Dot Massey for co-ordinating the season\u2019s competition, SI Widnes for hosting finals day, and Eileen Gilbert (SI Liverpool) for providing lunchtime catering.<\/p>\n<p>Dot Massey said, \u201cAs usual, we had a great day with keenly-contested games. We were blessed with magnificent weather. Our umbrellas, which last year we used as shelter in the <a title=\"link to bowls final 2013\" href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/2013\/09\/17\/bowls-final-come-rain-come-shine\/\">drenching conditions<\/a>, were shielding us from the sun instead.<a href=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-umbrella-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2380\" src=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-umbrella-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"bowls umbrella 2\" width=\"243\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-umbrella-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2014\/09\/bowls-umbrella-2.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis season we welcomed SI Stockport to the competition. I hope they enjoyed their matches, and will enter a team again next year.
