{"id":2647,"date":"2015-02-17T19:20:56","date_gmt":"2015-02-17T18:20:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/?p=2647"},"modified":"2019-03-11T22:34:26","modified_gmt":"2019-03-11T21:34:26","slug":"soroptimist-president-on-top-of-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/2015\/02\/17\/soroptimist-president-on-top-of-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Soroptimist President on Top of the World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regional President Margaret Baker has travelled to India and Nepal to meet Soroptimists in those countries and to <a href=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-on-top-of-the-world.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2651\" src=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-on-top-of-the-world-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"President Margaret on top of the world\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-on-top-of-the-world-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-on-top-of-the-world.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>catch up on her own club\u2019s project.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly she accompanied Federation Vice President Ann Hodgson to Chennai where Shreelatha Narayanan was installed as the new President of the National Association of <a title=\"link to soroptimist international india\" href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SI India<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next two days Margaret and Ann heard of the many and varied superb Soroptimist projects going on across India. They visited one project which helps burns survivors of domestic violence and met some of the women who are supported. It was a very disturbing experience but also very moving to see how this project is helping the women come through the most appalling injuries and rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n<p>In Nepal President Margaret was able to meet all five girls supported by her club, <a title=\"link to soroptimist international bolton\" href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bolton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SI Bolton<\/a>, at their two schools. \u201cThey are all delightful girls\u201d, she said, <a href=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-with-girls-in-Nepal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2653\" src=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-with-girls-in-Nepal-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"President Margaret with girls in Nepal\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-with-girls-in-Nepal-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/south-lancashire\/files\/2015\/02\/President-Margaret-with-girls-in-Nepal.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u201cworking as well as they can despite tremendous challenges in their homes. The two older girls are now teenagers \u2013 with a resulting shift in their personal and educational requirements. Bolton club&#8217;s members are now looking at ways in which they can meet those changing needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Margaret and Ann were very warmly welcomed into the homes of Soroptimists in both countries.
