Two Soroptimists from South Lancashire Region have successfully taken up the Zip Wire Challenge \u2013 \u2018the nearest thing to flying\u2019.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0pair were Margaret Emsley, our Federation President\u00a0(SI Ashton under Lyne) and Margaret Baker,\u00a0Immediate\u00a0Past Regional President\u00a0(SI Bolton). They\u00a0joined Ann Garvie, Immediate Past President of Soroptimist International, at Bethseda in Snowdonia for this nerve-shattering event.<\/p>\n

Strapped horizontally into a harness they each travelled headfirst at speeds approaching 100mph over the longest (and fastest) zip wire in Europe.<\/p>\n

Margaret Baker said, \u201cIt was awesome – scary at first but so thrilling. I didn’t want it to stop; I wanted to keep on flying!\u201d<\/p>\n

Not content with \u2018just\u2019 a zip wire experience, Ann and Margaret (B) faced the Demon Rides Challenge at Alton Towers a few days later.<\/p>\n

Why did these intrepid Soroptimists take to the skies and the rollercoaster? They\u00a0aim to raise funds for the Diamond Education Grant<\/a>, a charity founded and administered by our Federation (Soroptimist International GB & Ireland).\u00a0Its purpose is to provide grants to assist women to update their skills after employment breaks, or to acquire new skills to improve their opportunities for employment and promotion.<\/p>\n
