Stockport and District Soroptimists have raised funds to refurbish two video interview rooms and waiting rooms for Greater Manchester Police.\"Stockport<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The facilities (at the Hazel Grove Unit) are for adults and children – victims and witnesses, as well as those accompanying them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For the interview rooms the Soroptimists provided pictures, cushions, small tables and lamps. The aim is to make the rooms user-friendly \u2013 to offer a calm and comfortable environment for the victims of crime. Many are feeling especially vulnerable; many have suffered serious assault or domestic violence.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The waiting rooms are now fitted out with pictures, cushions and lamps; plus, TV-DVDs and a selection of films suitable for children. Books, toys, games, colouring books and pencils have been added for children, along with magazines and paperbacks for adults.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the Soroptimists have provided crockery and basic supplies. They will replenish the tea, coffee, sugar, milk and fruit juice on a regular basis.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Eleanor Reakes (President, SI Stockport and District) and fellow members presented a commemorative plaque to Divisional Superintendent Stephen McFarlane to mark the completion of the makeover. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

President Eleanor said, \u201cStockport Soroptimists have a strong history of supporting the victims of crime. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted that our members have been able to provide these simple, comfortable facilities at the video unit in Hazel Grove Police Station. They will make a real difference during interviews and while people are waiting.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
