A Widnes Soroptimist \u2018saved the day\u2019 when the speaker for a recent Regional Programme Action meeting had to pull out at the last minute.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Denise Parker<\/a> lectures in mental health at Liverpool John Moores University. Taking the theme \u2018living well with dementia\u2019, Denise spoke about the importance of keeping connected with a \u2018normal\u2019 life. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There may be no cure for dementia, but people living with the condition can make the most of non-pharmacological interventions such as exercise, mental stimulation and nutrition.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Denise was involved with the \u2018Innovate Dementia\u2019 3-year pan-European project. This focussed on the day-to-day challenges of living with dementia such as perceptual problems of depth and width or colour\/contrast. Appropriate changes to street signage, flooring, crockery and table coverings, for example, can make all the difference, enabling the person to maintain a successful home life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Later, at the Soroptimists\u2019 Council meeting, Region President Margaret outlined her plans for the year, including the Rose Bowl Challenge<\/a> and the Region Conference<\/a>.\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Throughout the day various clubs \u2013 including SI Southport and SI Liverpool \u2013 showcased their sales stalls, and raised money for their chosen charities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
