Soroptimists in St Helens made their mark on International Women\u2019s Day 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On 8<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> March (the day itself) members Pam Wright and Anne Jones appeared on BBC Radio Merseyside, interviewed by Tony Snell on the breakfast programme. Heavy early morning snow didn\u2019t deter them! They talked about Soroptimist International and about the work of SI St Helens.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Two days later the club presented their Women\u2019s Day event at St Helens Town Hall. There were 20 stalls showcasing local women\u2019s lives and and opportunities. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Women promoted their small businesses and students from St Helens College set up a beauty parlour. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>There was the chance to try out activities such as badminton, tai chi and bricklaying. Local organisations showed how they offer education, health, and support services to local women. Plus the Girl Guides turned out in force. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The hall looked great – so many talented and interesting women. The Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens visited, as did the local MP, Marie Rimmer. All had a go at bricklaying!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone seemed to enjoy the events. The club reports that there were a number of membership enquiries which they will follow up.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This was a massive Soroptimist Programme Action effort over the two days. SI St Helens<\/a> members covered their aims to press for progress on the International Women\u2019s Day themes: to forge the positive visibility of women, to celebrate women\u2019s achievements, to influence the actions of others, and to challenge stereotypes and bias.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
