Sound familiar? This involves \u201cinspiring people to discover and adopt ingenious, practical ways to free themselves from poverty and disadvantage\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Tahoma',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The charity works specifically to expand solar power energy, to enhance agricultural practice, to improve water\/wastewater facilities and to reduce the impact of natural disasters. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Tahoma',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Through technology \u2013 often very simple and always appropriate to each community \u2013 Practical Action aims to promote sustainable development. At a clinic in Zimbabwe, for example, a solar energy \u2018farm\u2019 produces electricity to provide lighting (for women giving birth at night) and to refrigerate medicines.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Tahoma',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2018\/06\/Practical-Action-logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4439\" src=\"\/south-lancashire\/files\/2018\/06\/Practical-Action-logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>Yvonne Gibbon, Regional Programme Action Officer, said, &#8220;Glyn\u2019s descriptions of projects such as \u2018Pumpkins against Poverty\u2019 in Bangladesh and \u2018Killer in the Kitchen\u2019 in Nepal certainly caught the Soroptimists\u2019 attention. Many have already expressed an interest in finding out more about Practical Action and its impact.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: 'Tahoma',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Meanwhile, members\u2019 impact on the \u2018plastic mountain\u2019 was considerably reduced when \u2013 for the first time \u2013 SIGBI\u2019s reusable cups, as well as assorted china mugs from home, were put to practical use for the meeting\u2019s refreshments.
