Soroptimists in South Lancashire continue to keep up their long tradition of crown green bowling each summer.<\/h5>\n

Crosby club hosted a social bowls<\/a> evening. Soroptimists from Southport, Warrington and Wigan found their way (eventually!) to Hightown. Novice bowlers received some ‘basic training’ to help them along, while more experienced players paired off for a few enjoyable games. The evening was rounded off by one of Crosby’s excellent suppers. Fun, friendship and food!<\/p>\n

The Region’s bowls season took on a more competitive note at the event organised in Padgate by SI Warrington member (and Region Secretary) Margaret Emsley. Members from Liverpool, Southport, Crosby, Leigh & District, plus Margaret’s own club, met for the annual knock-out competition. SI Southport were delighted to bring their regular ‘country’ player, Joan Lunt. An experienced bowler, Joan is a Past President of SI South Lancashire, and now a member of SI Grange over Sands.<\/p>\n

Round 1 saw each bowler play two matches in her sector. The highest scorer from each sector then competed in the final. Anne Grimes (SI Liverpool) and Joan Lunt were the finalists, with Joan clinching the win.<\/p>\n

Sharon Ryan, President Elect of SI Crosby, presented Joan with the Tricia Fahey Trophy. This simple silver cup commemorates Crosby Soroptimist Tricia, who founded the regional bowls competitions many years ago. Joan was delighted to win as she was part of the original bowling cohort that supported Tricia in those early days.<\/p>\n

From hot sun to steady drizzle, the bowlers experienced a variety of conditions. It was a day of keen – but friendly – competition.
