South Lancashire\u2019s Soroptimists put pen to paper at their Summer meeting. All in a good cause, of course.<\/h4>\n

The charity From Me To You<\/em><\/a> (FMTY) focuses on the cheer that a simple friendly letter can bring to cancer patients. Undergoing treatment, people can feel isolated, anxious or in need of distraction. A chatty letter brings snippets of news from another person \u2013 reminders of everyday life. There\u2019s comfort in that connection, however mundane the contents.<\/p>\n

So, after viewing the video message from Alison Hitchcock (co-founder of FMTY) the Soroptimists took up the challenge. It seemed daunting to write to a complete stranger \u2013 even anonymously. However, the charity\u2019s guidance notes helped overcome most people\u2019s initial hesitancy.<\/p>\n

By the end of the session Yvonne Gibbon (Region Programme Action Officer) had a bundle of letters. These she will forward to FMTY for onward distribution to cancer patients \u2013 if possible, to women.<\/p>\n

Several clubs are now considering promoting this initiative to their own members. In particular, for those who are less able to take part in physically active projects, letter-writing could be of value. It is a worthwhile way of maintaining Soroptimist service and of making a real difference.<\/p>\n

As a postscript to the meeting, cuppas became coppers \u2013 the Soroptimists held a spontaneous From Me To Brew<\/em> collection at the \u2018tea bar\u2019. \u00a0The members of Soroptimist International Bootle were kept busy serving – and over \u00a340 was raised for the charity.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”white”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1780783945738-da619c43-c21e-7″ include=”6740,6737,6739″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
