[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Soroptimist International has consultative status at United Nations, and so, we recognise and celebrate several of the UN’s special days during the year. We particularly draw attention to those that will benefit women and girls.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”49″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]You may have seen, a few years ago, how our own club celebrated\u00a0UN International Day of Peace<\/strong>\u00a0in a\u00a0BIG WAY,<\/strong>\u00a0holding a Peace Vigil at nearby Hadleigh Castle. We brought the issue of peace as a basic human right, to the attention of people in our\u00a0locality.<\/p>\n

We firmly believe that peace isn\u2019t just the absence of war \u2013 it\u2019s about living without fear, being cared for and being educated so that life can be good![\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”105″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]At noon, we walked to Hadleigh Castle for our Peace Vigil. Everyone, even the Mayor of Castle Point wore white tee-shirts or tops!<\/p>\n

There, we released a cloud of 35 white doves, sponsored by organisations and individuals, symbolising our Soroptimist aim for a peaceful world.<\/p>\n

Everyone was given a peace scroll \u2013 the whole event was extremely moving and worthwhile.<\/p>\n

The doves could be seen from as far away as Canvey Island.
