The Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict\u00a0at the ExCel Centre was amazing! <\/span><\/p>\n

\"P1000329\"<\/a><\/span>Our pic shows Angelina Jolie\u00a0and William Hague who organised the event.\u00a0Stella McCartney\u00a0also supported. All\u00a0our members spent time speaking with the\u00a0William Hague who said, ‘I know all about Soroptimists,\u00a0they are always\u00a0campaigning!’
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The event continued for a\u00a0week, with diplomats across the world. The hope is that following the discussions, a world agreement will be reached about not\u00a0tolerating sexual violence in conflict and bringing any\u00a0perpetrators to justice.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the many good events was a ‘mock trial’ of UN Resolution\u00a01325, with Cherie Booth as judge and women witnesses from\u00a0war-torn areas around the world presenting evidence about\u00a0whether the resolution has yet made an impact. One woman, who was from Sierra Leone complimented\u00a0Soroptimists for their work there on Project Sierra, which supported women after the war.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a great priviledge for Soroptimists to be involved along\u00a0with the many other organisations who support women across the\u00a0world. Margaret Sandercock from the Southend Soroptimist club\u00a0was supporting the international Soroptimist team yesterday.<\/p>\n

Soroptimists were able to flag up their work, including the\u00a0Hillcrest Project, a project supported by members around East\u00a0Anglia, to train AIDS nurses in\u00a0 a South African township.<\/span><\/p>\n
