SI Poole linked up with SI Thames Valley and SI High Wycombe at an event on Saturday 15th October.\u00a0 The event, celebrating the International Day of the Girl, was organised by Thames Valley Police, and aimed to inform the multicultural population of women and girls living in the High Wycombe area about facilities available for them.<\/p>\n

The event attracted hundreds of participants and we were kept very busy distributing leaflets and information about the Purple Teardrop Campaign, and Soroptimist International.<\/p>\n

The High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Millie Soames, spent a long time at our stand, learning about our initiatives. Another important participant was Angie Sarchet, who works for Buckinghamshire County Council, and who have a really excellent presentation about ‘Exploitation’, covering topics such as slavery, child sex abuse,\u00a0and trafficking.\u00a0 I gave her samples of Purple Teardrop materials and she promised to get in touch.<\/p>\n

The event ended with a rousing performance by a local multicultural choir – and delicious food!<\/p>\n

However, we also learned a lot.\u00a0 We chatted to the stands nearby, which included Rape Crisis, MIND, NHS, Thames Valley Police etc, and heard about their initiatives. We were also very impressed by the WI stand, in particular their banner – and their magazine, which looks just like commercially available magazines, with lots of photos, interesting articles, and advertising.\u00a0 There is so much we can learn from their success!<\/p>\n
