What do you think when you hear Anti Slavery Day?\u00a0 That slavery is something of the past?\u00a0 It should be, yet it’s still rife in many parts of the world.\u00a0 So when did we ‘stop’ slavery? \u00a0 The Abolition of the Slave Trade Act was finally passed in 1807 and all slaves were freed over the next twenty years.\u00a0 How disappointing then that in the 21st century we need a day like this!<\/p>\n

SI Poole’s Call to Action:<\/h3>\n

Anti-Slavery Day is in its 3rd year on 18th October 2013 and once again we hope clubs will make use of our FREE SAMPLE RESOURCES PACK<\/strong>* to hold some sort of awareness-raising event on this special day, or during the same week. Last year an amazing number of clubs and individuals made use of our resources to help support our campaign.<\/p>\n

Use our resources to help tell the public about the trafficking of women and girls for forced prostitution and other forms of sex exploitation, and to collect petition signatures. Ideas on the sort of event or action you can take to mark this day can be downloaded from www.purpleteardrop.org.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We would particularly like you to mark Anti-Slavery Day by following our MP Call to Action and talking to your MP(s) about your concerns regarding trafficking and Government strategy. Steps to take can be downloaded from www.purpleteardrop.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n

*If you would like a FREE SAMPLE RESOURCE PACK, which will contain one each of our 4 posters, 2 different information leaflets, a Purple Teardrop pin, a petition form, a Love Me\/Love Me Not bookmark, and an order form in case you want extra handouts or pins, you need to do this:<\/p>\n

Email purple.teardrop@ntlworld.com with your request, giving your name and that of your club, full address and postcode straightaway. We will be sending these out over the summer \u2013 the quicker you let us have your details, the sooner we can organize our volunteers to send them out.<\/p>\n
