{"id":351,"date":"2014-11-04T23:46:23","date_gmt":"2014-11-04T22:46:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/southport\/?p=351"},"modified":"2015-01-04T23:48:08","modified_gmt":"2015-01-04T22:48:08","slug":"world-war-i-commemoration-evening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/southport\/2014\/11\/04\/world-war-i-commemoration-evening\/","title":{"rendered":"World War I Commemoration Evening"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_353\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-353\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/southport\/files\/2015\/01\/WWI-Event-Oct-2014-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-353\" src=\"\/southport\/files\/2015\/01\/WWI-Event-Oct-2014-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Suffragettes United\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-353\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Suffragettes United<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Waterside Lodge, on the banks of the Marine Lake, was transformed into a 1910s venue to hold a World War I Commemoration Evening.<\/p>\n<p>A small committee, armed with artistic and organisational talents \u2013 and a little help from their friends and family &#8211; arranged a splendid evening of good food and excellent entertainment and the 82 guests joined in the spirit of the period, some arriving as nurses, soldiers and suffragettes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Miscellany\u2019 provided the entertainment with a programme of war-time songs and poems and kept the audience enthralled by their performance.
