The theme for 2020 is \u201cOrange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the world retreated inside homes due to the lockdown measures introduced to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, reports showed an alarming increase in the already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/news\/in-focus\/in-focus-gender-equality-in-covid-19-response\/violence-against-women-during-covid-19\">existing pandemic of violence against women<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccompanying the crisis has been a spike in domestic violence reporting, at exactly the time that services, including rule of law, health and shelters, are being diverted to address the pandemic,\u201d stated the UN Secretary-General\u2019s report, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/unsdg.un.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2020-03\/SG-Report-Socio-Economic-Impact-of-Covid19.pdf\">Shared Responsibility, Global Solidarity: Responding to the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Club members wore orange at our recent Zoom club meeting to show our support for the United Nation&#8217;s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
