{"id":558,"date":"2017-01-15T17:53:55","date_gmt":"2017-01-15T16:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/southport\/?p=558"},"modified":"2017-01-15T17:56:25","modified_gmt":"2017-01-15T16:56:25","slug":"megans-world-challenge-expedition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/southport\/2017\/01\/15\/megans-world-challenge-expedition\/","title":{"rendered":"Megan\u2019s World Challenge Expedition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Megan Ashworth, a student at KGV Sixth Form College, presented recently to SI Southport about her World Challenge Expedition to Costa Rica.<\/p>\n<p>Megan had to raise \u00a33800 for the expedition, which she did through a series of innovative ideas &#8211; sponsored events, cake sales, as well as a part-time job \u2013 and applications to organisations and groups such as ours.<\/p>\n<p>The expedition involved a trekking phase \u2013 where the students climbed the highest peak in the area \u2013 and a community phase. In the community phase, the students lived and collaborated with a family, planted trees, painted a local school and helped with the construction of aquaduct.<\/p>\n<p>Megan, who was accompanied by her mother Alison, \u00a0gave a very animated and interesting presentation to the club.
