For the last few years, SI Southport has concentrated on three areas of Programme Action \u2013 these are health, education and violence against women.<\/p>\n

In early February, the health team arranged an excellent evening \u2013 a delicious meal and an outstanding presentation by our newest member.<\/p>\n

She presented a very personal story of her husband\u2019s condition \u2013 how, from feeling unwell on holiday, he was diagnosed with a serious brain injury, a condition which transformed both their lives.<\/p>\n

She spoke very honestly and passionately of the following months and how they learned to cope with this new situation\u00a0 – and how she became aware of Headway Sefton, a charity set up to help and give support to people affected by brain injury. The charity operates on a local and national basis, providing a number of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support and community outreach.\u00a0 With Headway\u2019s help and support from relatives and friends, our \u2018Soropti-mister\u2019 is making good steady progress and has recently started driving again, as well as playing table-tennis, which is giving him more confidence and independence<\/p>\n

With sufficient funding, Headway Sefton is able to arrange many activities and, where possible, regular away-days. Unfortunately, they do not receive any government funding and rely on charitable donations to provide the wonderful support they give to many people who have gone through the same experience as we have heard about.
