We were delighted to welcome the Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Rosemary Farmer to the event.
Animated discussions covered: equality, women and employability, domestic abuse, health, societal and media pressure on women and how women experience the criminal justice system.
The event was chaired by The Thinking Woman’s Coach, *Dr Jessica Chivers and the panelists were Claire Harvey – Director of Culture and Inclusion at EDIT Development, Min Rodruiguez – head of inclusion and diversity at the Law Society, Chandni Hanif – Luton-based,Director of fashion business Urban HAYA, Min Rodruiguez – Law student, University of Durham, College rep for DUACAS (Durham University Afro-Caribbean Society) and Dr Laura Abbott – Senior Lecturer and Fellow of The Royal College of Midwives and one of the world’s experts on pregnancy in prison.

The Talent Keeper Specialists began in 2011 when the then Head of Talent at Veolia Water, Alina Sandell, commissioned us to produce a line manager’s guide to positive maternity transitions. We now work with employers to maximise the potential of employees preparing for and returning from any type of extended leave including maternity, Shared Parental Leave, adoption, sickness and sabbatical. Our client roll-call includes ITV, BlackRock, Cisco and (perhaps) less well-known names such as Barton Willmore, Kilburn & Strode and Finalta.
Our latest work includes the creation of www.comebackcommunity.co.uk, a new way to support people who are preparing for/returning from extended leave – and their line managers. About Jessica Chivers
Aged about nine I asked my mum whether “woman” was a contraction of “womb” and “man” and why we couldn’t have a name of our own. I remember her delighting in my thinking but not having an answer. She was a liberal, single-parent teacher and used to let me watch TV other parents probably wouldn’t (LA Law, Dynasty, hard-hitting documentaries). The programme about women on death row for killing abusive partners set me on course to become a lawyer age 11. I went on to study psychology instead and I became a feminist without knowing there was a name for it. I had the Fawcett Society’s ‘This is What a Feminist Looks Like’ T-Shirt long before it got caught in the media storm.
