{"id":11625,"date":"2026-03-30T17:36:38","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T16:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/?p=11625"},"modified":"2026-04-03T17:14:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T16:14:11","slug":"quiz26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/2026\/quiz26\/","title":{"rendered":"Bright Orange Soroptimist Quiz Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Soroptimist International St Albans and District\u2019s Charity Quiz Night on Sat 28 March was a a great success raising more than \u00a31500 for the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sahwr.org.uk\/\">\u00a0 \u00a0SAHWR<\/a> Refuge and Domestic Abuse support service.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/285-Quiz26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11803\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/285-Quiz26.jpg\" alt=\"Quiz 2026\" width=\"1024\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/285-Quiz26.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/285-Quiz26-300x93.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a>This is always the Club\u2019s last big fundraiser for the Club\u2019s end of year in April so it was brilliant that we it was a sell out with 12 teams participating. Barbara <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/287-Quiz-26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-11805\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/287-Quiz-26-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"Quiz 2026\" width=\"200\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/287-Quiz-26-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/287-Quiz-26.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Saunders, co-President of the Club was the MC for the evening keeping everyone to time, and keeping scores too. The Quiz Master was Barbara\u2019s husband, Derek Palmer who challenged everyone\u2019s brain cells on the night with some really interesting and varied rounds \u2013 all with multiple choice answers meaning that everyone has a chance to answer the questions. Barbara did a brilliant job supporting Derek as well as organising the event. If <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/284-Quiz26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11802\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/284-Quiz26-300x102.jpg\" alt=\"Quiz 2026\" width=\"300\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/284-Quiz26-300x102.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/284-Quiz26.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>people didn\u2019t know the answers to many of the questions posed before the quiz, they will have gone away knowing many more useful (?) things than they did before! Team \u201cBook Ends\u201d were the winners but many of the other eleven teams were hot on their heels too. There was a great atmosphere on the night, and we have received some excellent feedback from our guests, saying that they had really enjoyed themselves which makes it all the more worthwhile!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Soroptimists Orange the World\u00a0<\/strong><strong>to End Violence Against Women!\u00a0<\/strong><strong><em>\u201cOrange day\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">\u00a0is the 25<sup>th<\/sup> of every month. This year Soroptimists and guests were asked to wear something orange to the quiz to raise awareness. Many of the team names had orange themes! As a bright and optimistic colour, orange represents a future free from the violence against and the abuse of women and girls.
