St Albans and Warsaw Soroptimists Cultural Exchange\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The St Albans & District Soroptimists visited their fellow Soroptimists in Warsaw for a cultural exchange weekend in June.\u00a0The visit\u00a0coincided with the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth, and a highlight\u00a0of the weekend was going to an al fresco\u00a0Chopin concert in\u00a0Royal Lazienski Park. The members who went would thoroughly recommend anyone to go on a sightseeing trip to Warsaw “it’s a really lovely city with so much to see, and everyone made us feel so welcome” said Jean Eaton one of the Soroptimists who lives in Redbourn. The trip was organised by Wanda Bristow, a member\u00a0who\u00a0created and manages the friendship link with Soroptimists in Warsaw. Wanda was from Warsaw originally,\u00a0she is a qualified interpretor for the Polish language,\u00a0and\u00a0has lived in\u00a0St\u00a0Albans\u00a0for more than 25\u00a0years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sally Bear<\/strong> (the club’s well travelled mascot) is pictured here<\/strong> listening\u00a0to the Chopin concert\u00a0in front of the Frederic Chopin Monument in the\u00a0Royal Lazienski Park in Warsaw.\u00a0Chopin virtuoso concerts are performed every Sunday to the\u00a0public\u00a0(for free!) in the park in the summer months.\u00a0Sally Bear\u00a0is a St Albans and District “Fund for the Future” bear – the bear was bought in 2001\u00a0in support of\u00a0the\u00a0Fund for the Future which continues to provide grants to\u00a0charities and voluntary groups in the area.<\/p>\n
