{"id":1719,"date":"2014-07-22T16:35:30","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T15:35:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/?p=1719"},"modified":"2014-08-15T12:59:51","modified_gmt":"2014-08-15T11:59:51","slug":"cricket-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/2014\/cricket-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Cricket Girls \u2013 New Winners of Soroptimist Trophy 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A joint Abbots Langley and Watford Under-13 girls cricket team won the fourth annual Soroptimist Audrey Collins Hertfordshire Cricket\u00a0\u00a0League Trophy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"17-Cricket-Abbots-Watford-GirlsU13web\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/17-Cricket-Abbots-Watford-GirlsU13web-300x214.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" \/>The nail biting game went down to the last ball, with the Abbots Langley and Watford Under-13s combined side beating opponents Knebworth Park by one run in the final to lift the trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on his side\u2019s success, lead coach Phil Lewins said: \u201cI hope this can be a springboard to further promoting girls and ladies cricket in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"font-size: 0.9em;line-height: 1.5em\" href=\"\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/48CricketCupShieldWebSoropStA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1745 alignleft\" alt=\"48CricketCupShieldWebSoropStA\" src=\"\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/48CricketCupShieldWebSoropStA-300x244.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/48CricketCupShieldWebSoropStA-300x244.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/files\/48CricketCupShieldWebSoropStA.jpg 590w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Denise Powell, President of Soroptimist International St Albans and District said \u201cThere was a great atmosphere. The excitement of the winning team was plain to see, there was much hugging and smiling and shouting \u2013 there can be no doubt that there is great prestige\u00a0in winning the trophy and that the Soroptimist Audrey Collins\u00a0under\u00a013\u2019s cricket award is prized and is therefore making a real difference which is a fitting tribute to Audrey.
