{"id":5354,"date":"2018-09-03T20:31:29","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T19:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/?p=5354"},"modified":"2018-09-07T13:46:33","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T12:46:33","slug":"summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/st-albans-and-district\/2018\/summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Club Summer Outings &#8211; Theatre Plus Exhibitions in St Albans and Camden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Club doesn&#8217;t meet formally in August but we had three summer outings which were both entertaining and interesting and provided a perfect opportunity for some Members to catch up with one another!<\/p>\n<p>The first enjoyable outing was on Sat 21 Jul when a group went to see\u00a0 \u201cFanny\u2019s First Play\u201d at Shaw\u2019s Corner Outdoor Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>On 2 August a group of nine St Albans Soroptimists plus two guests attended the first &#8220;Museum Late&#8221; event\u00a0 at the newly opened St Albans Museum and Gallery in the centre of St Albans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk\/\">www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk<\/a>\u00a0The theme of the this first event was printing which played a big part in St Albans history. The group was warmly welcomed by Irene Cockroft, writer and historian on women&#8217;s suffrage, co-curator of the exhibition and also a Member of the Greater London Soroptimist Club.\u00a0If you visit the website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parliament.uk\/1866\">www.parliament.uk\/1866<\/a>\u00a0 you can find out more about the 1866 Women&#8217;s Suffrage petition: the first mass Votes for Women petition.
