Motivational speaker\u00a0Dr Kathy Weston<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>gave a packed-house some brilliant tips and strategies to help families raise resilient girls when she delivered her inspirational talk on Monday 25 Nov at Townsend School St Albans.<\/header>\n

The talk covered the current state of girls\u2019 mental health, how in this \u201cage of anxiety\u201d it must to be talked about and managed. Kathy explained the mechanics of resilience and how families can give girls the confidence to thrive. The role of digital technology was detailed and the harm from social media undermining children\u2019s views of themselves. There were a few great questions from the floor and then most of the audience left the room almost reeling from the volume of useful information they had received and still processing what they had heard. We were graced by the presence of The Right Worshipful the Mayor of St Albans City and District Janet Smith whose theme for her year in office is \u201cKnowledge and Confidence\u201d. The event raised more than \u00a31200 which\u00a0will go to the two main charities being supported by Soroptimist International St Albans & District this year \u2013\u00a0Herts Rape Crisis<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0www.hertsrapecrisis.org.uk<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0St Albans and Hertsmere Women\u2019s Refuge\u00a0www.sahwr.org.uk\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0A massive thanks must go to\u00a0Townsend School<\/strong>\u00a0for their generosity in donating the venue for this topical event.<\/p>\n

The\u00a025th November<\/strong>\u00a0is an important date for Soroptimists all around the world \u2013 it is the\u00a0United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and it marks the launch of 16 days of activism that will conclude on 10 December,\u00a0International Human Rights Day<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
