The Global Orange the World Campaign<\/strong> is 16 days of activism to end gender based violence from 25 Nov, the International Day to end Violence Against Women to 10 Dec, Human Rights Day\u00a0 www.unwomen.org\/en\/what-we-do\/ending-violence-against-women\/unite<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>This year Soroptimist International St Albans and District has engaged with even more schools, places of worship and businesses across the area than last year. Organisations and individuals are challenged to do something orange and send photos to the Soroptimists between 25 Nov and 10 Dec as part of the call to action, with the Museum and Gallery lighting up orange\u00a0 for the launch of the campaign. Mayor Councillor Geoff Harrison participated in the launch (pictured here centre next to Soroptimist Denise Powell). Geoff delivered a speech thanking the Soroptimists for the work they do to improve the lives of women and girls locally and globally.<\/p>\n

Annie Brewster (pictured here left of Soroptimist Denise Powell in the centre), Chair of Herts County Council and supporter of the Soroptimists for many years is part of the Orange the World Herts Campaign. Annie gave an inspirational speech and looks forward to welcoming Soroptimists to County Hall on Tue 29 Nov when it will also turn orange.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Afterwards the group retired to the Great Northern pub on London Road – which was bedecked in orange!<\/p>\n

As we mark the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign in 2022, this is your opportunity to join hands with survivors, activists, decision-makers and people from every walk of life, to shine a light on the need for funding, essential services, prevention and data that shapes better-informed responses. Ending violence against women is everyone\u2019s business!<\/strong><\/p>\n

More schools<\/strong> got involved this year and all have said they want to be involved next year!<\/p>\n

St Albans Girls School<\/strong>, Sally-Ann Taylor, Assistant Director of Learning Post-16 said: “This is the presentation that our students created for the Orange the World event – they also encouraged students to wear orange accessories. The presentation was shared across the whole school in form time. It led to some very important discussions!”. Orange The World – STAGS Talks<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ridgeway Academy, Welwyn, Lucy Hyde Assistant Headteacher<\/strong><\/strong> sent us this report Orange the world Ridge Academy<\/a>– <\/strong><\/strong>she said “In Personal Development & Assemblies, Orange the World was a running theme in form times for students in Years Seven to Eleven for the week beginning 18th<\/sup> November, which culminated in a personal development form time lesson on the morning of Fri 25th Nov.” \"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n

Verulam School, St Albans, Phyllis Avery Assistant Headteacher<\/strong> said “We asked students and staff to wear orange to show support and we had our Yr11 Jazz trio play in our orange-themed hall during lunch on Thurs whilst having material on the tables to explain the campaign.
