\"\"Joint Repair Fair Event – happy homes, happy bees and a happy planet – and some fundraising too!<\/b><\/div>\n
On the first afternoon of the Sustainable St Albans Festival 2023 – Sat 10 June, Soroptimists Anna, Jean and Helen took part in a wonderful joint #Susfest23<\/strong> event at St Albans URC (Greenwood) – a Repair Fair with a Plants for Pollinators stall and a Smalls for All collection. This a first joint event between the URC, our Soroptimist Club and the St Albans Fixers and we are keen to repeat it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"SustFest23<\/a>\"SustFest23<\/a>\"SustFest23<\/a>As you can see from the cheery pictures the Repair Fair was a great success – with more than 25 people going home happy with their item fixed , a help both for them and for the planet: as you can see from the data below there was also a saving in waste and CO2.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"Jean<\/a>\"\"<\/a>Plants for Pollinators were a great hit with local gardeners .- Jean is seen here helping someone identify plants suitable for her garden. All the plants were taken, with Anna taking home any remaining on the day and leaving them outside her house where they were eagerly snatched up for the new Community Garden in Greenwood Park and by neighbours. The bees in Chiswell Green will be happy this summer!<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/strong>The afternoon was great fun for all and as shown below also made \u00a3122. 50 in donations for the URCs chosen charity , Christian Aid. Thanks to Sarah, Barbara, Jean and Helen for donations of plants and cakes.<\/div>\n

Anna, co-ordinated the whole event brilliantly including doing a great interview for the Repair Fair and our Club on Mix FM beforehand. She was delighted with this a first joint event between the URC, our Soroptimist Club and the St Albans Fixers and is keen to do another one next year at Homewood Rd which the Soroptimist Club will be happy to be involved with.

which calculated the following results:
Waste averted: 10kg
CO2 equivalent averted: 106kg

Fundraising<\/b>
A total of \u00a3122.50 was donated to Christian Aid: \u00a366.50 (shared donations with the Fixers), refreshments \u00a336 and plants \u00a320 .<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This event contributed to St Albans<\/strong> #SUSTFEST23<\/strong> being bigger and better than any previous year’s festival making a real difference to the environment.
