September 2023 News<\/strong><\/h3>\n

September started with a very busy Saturday (9th) where club members went in three different directions!<\/p>\n

Our stand at the conference<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Wendy, Claire, Mary and Jennie were very pleased to take part in the Leadership and Entrepreneurship Conference organised by the Inspiring Women’s Network today. There were a range of speakers, workshops and stands available and they certainly did lots of networking whilst raising awareness of our organisation. It was an honour to meet so many amazing women!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Angela, Aillie, Libby, Jackey, Rowena, Barbara, Heather and Sandra and a range of other helpers ran our 8th year of giving away books at the Lanlivery Vintage Rally<\/span><\/a> and Country Fair to celebrate International Literacy Day. They had fantastic weather for this event (which ran across 2 days) and thoroughly enjoyed watching customers young and old walking away with their free books. This is a great two day rally hosting a variety of country events. Many club members helped with the set up and the collection of books.<\/p>\n

.. And finally, still on the 9th,\u00a0 President Jill, Regional Membership Officer (RMO) Kay and incoming RMO Jane attended the Soroptimist International SWCI Region<\/span><\/a> Officers meeting to plan a Soroptimist Discovery Day. It was a very productive day. Around the table they worked with other officers and our Regional President Valerie and Incoming Regional President Margaret.<\/div>\n

Our presentation at Sky Academy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On the 12th September Rowena and Jennie joined staff and children at Sky Primary & Eden Project Nursery, to present them with a Butterfly Education Kit and some books on butterflies. The kit was sponsored by Cornwall Butterfly & Moth Society<\/span><\/a> of which Rowena is a member. The Butterfly Education Kit is a STEM<\/span><\/a> Authenticated Educational Product. We hope that the children will enjoy learning about the life cycle of the butterfly as they watch their caterpillars evolve.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On the 13th we held our Speaker Supper at Carlyon Bay Golf Club and we were pleased to welcome Rebecca Smith from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, who gave a very interesting presentation. We enjoyed a lovely supper provided by the golf course.<\/p>\n

On the 17th members battled the weather to carry out their annual beach clean at Charlestown beach. The good news is that the level of man-made rubbish on the beach was not as bad as last year. Also the tea and shortbread provided by Judith was very welcome!!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>On the 18th Representatives from St Austell and District attended the 93rd Charter Luncheon at SI Plymouth and District. Members Catherine, Rowena, Kay, Mary, Wendy, Maggie and Jane are pictured here with Plymouth President Ellie. A lovely event!!<\/p>\n

On Saturday 23rd club representatives attended the Southwest and Channel Islands Regional meeting near Taunton. The speakers were many and varied including our own members Mersedeh and Kay. The day began with the guest speaker, Professor Helen Young, who spoke in depth and at times quite candidly about her role as the Senior Responsible Officer for the NHS 111 Covid Response Services, from the very early days of the Pandemic right up to the present day. It is always very interesting to share ideas from within the region as a whole.<\/p>\n

A new member from Stafford joined us!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Our Orange Cafe this month was on a Monday but we still had an excellent turn out. We were pleased to welcome Soroptimist Caroline from SI Stafford who is transferring to our club soon. Orange Day calls upon activists, to mobilize people and highlight issues relevant to preventing and ending violence against women and girls, not only once a year on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, but every month.<\/p>\n

September ended with Sticker Memory Cafe Coffee morning on the 30th. A number of our members are involved in the running of the cafe and this was a successful event<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
