Message from Judith the Club President 02-05-18

May 2018 – – April 2019 Soroptimist International of Stafford celebrate their 80th Anniversary

President Judith’s theme for her year is ” Celebrating our Diversity ”  She firmly believes that we should take full advantage of ALL our many diverse skills working as a TEAM (together everyone achieves more ) to improve the lives of women and girls.

There is not only diversity through our membership but also through the choice of seven speakers ranging from Jean Martyn, a finalist in Britain’s Got Talent to Hifsa Iqbal, Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire. There are two male speakers one talking about the history of music and the other talking about the history of sewage.

As the 80th Year is the  ‘ Year of the Oak ‘ Judith has made many analogies between the oak tree and Soroptimists . The trunk is our club, the roots the firm foundations planted 80 years ago, the branches our members and the leaves the diversity of our members. The oak tree plants seeds and  we Soroptimists plant our own seeds of change to raise awareness, through our Programme Action work, to make positive differences to the lives of women and girls

President Judith’s local charity is YPSS ( Young Pregnancy Support Service ) and her International charity, in conjunction with the RNLI  ‘Swim to Save a Life ‘ targeting aquatic survival in Zanzibar. The club will also continue to support Staffordshire Women’s Aid and The Dalit Freedom Network.

The quotation  ‘ A large oak tree is just a little nut that refused to give up ‘  Like the little acorn, We as Soroptimists must Never Give Up in our quest to improve the lives of Women and Girls
