S I Stafford President’s Message 2015/16
Ordinary women, extraordinary lives
I feel very honoured to represent SI Stafford as its president in the club’s 76th year. I hope that our club will continue to develop its programme action work (PAC) which is at the heart of all we do.
This year we are continuing to raise money for Mary’s Meals to build a kitchen for a school in Malawi, in memory of Christine Whitehouse, an enthusiastic member who died tragically.
A wide range of topics is covered in the programme of speaker meetings this year, each speaker, of course, an expert in their field. I do hope you will find many to interest you. The first meeting tackles a particularly current global concern, why peace is a challenge. In addition to our speaker meetings members and friends are also invited to the social and fund raising activities ranging from a bat walk through rock ‘n’ roll to our Charter Dinner.
On the first Friday of the month members and friends are invited to a bread and soup lunch, donations going to Mary’s Meals. Contact club officers for details of venues.
I hope to raise awareness of the impact the clothing industry on workers, who are mainly women, and the environment by not buying any new clothes during my year as president. This will be quite a challenge for me. I will keep you posted on how I am getting on!
