Welcome to SI Stockport in 2025<\/h2>\n

Stockport and District Club benefits from a wide variety of talent and knowledge amongst members that enables us to work together, taking part in local community activities, helping a number of charities locally, nationally and abroad as well as providing representation to various organisations within the Borough.\u00a0 We are currently celebrating our 82nd year of action and service in Stockport and beyond.<\/p>\n

Stockport and District Club was chartered in 1938. The Club kept going throughout the war and has always been greatly respected in the Borough for the work that it does as well as being a source of support and friendship to its members.\u00a0 There are Club and Social meetings held once a month on the 3rd Tuesday at Hazel Grove Bowling and Tennis Club.\u00a0 At the Club meetings we discuss business, reports back from committees, plan programme activities etc. and endeavour to have fun at the same time!\u00a0 We may have speakers at Club meetings\u00a0 who are usually, but not always, related to our projects and programme activities.<\/p>\n

The club is part of the Great Britain and Ireland Federation <\/a>which, in turn, is part of Soroptimist International<\/a>. One member was pleased to attend the last International Convention in Montreal in 2011. Several members attend the Federation Conferences which are held each year, usually in the UK but occasionally abroad. In 2016, it was held in Malta and in 2017 was in Cardiff.\u00a0 We have also travelled just 35 miles over to Liverpool for Conference!\u00a0 2020 saw a successful ‘virtual’ Conference from Bournemouth – Covid 19 ready and respecting!\u00a0 2021 also saw a Llandudno based virtual Conference setting with in person settings returning in Belfast in 2002, London\u00a0 in 2023 and we are off to Edinburgh this year.\u00a0 Soroptimists get about where able!<\/p>\n

The most important part of our work as Soroptimists is our Programme Action. This is what we call our projects which aim to enable, empower and educate women and girls.\u00a0 If you are interested in furthering our work in any of these areas or in helping us consider future projects why don\u2019t you join us? And we must nor forget the social side to our activities as a recent soup and sandwich lunch at a member’s home indicates!<\/p>\n
