Mrs Louise Fleet, West Glamorgan High Sheriff, a former member of Swansea Soroptimists, was a delightful speaker at our October Dinner meeting. Her talk informed of us of the historical role of the position and she gave an insight into the life of today’s High Sheriffs. The picture was taken with Amanda Rees, shortly to be installed as South Wales Regional President, Jane Giles, current Swansea President and Rhian Williams, a former SW Regional President and incoming Swansea President.
Past Presidents Angela Ball and Lynn Minshall were delighted to present cheques to officers at Swansea Carers and a volunteer and officer at Maggie’s in July. We were very well received at their work places and hope to continue to support them in many ways.
Martin Thomas from the local health board spoke on “Heritage in Health” and enlightened us on the many artefacts that have survived from hospital wards in and around Swansea and the images he showed gave us an insight into previous practices. A most interesting illustrated talk. Martin is with his colleague Rebecca Kelly from ABMU Health Board (a Swansea Soroptimist member) and President Jane Giles.
Swansea President Jane Giles, Past President Angela Ball and Membership Officer Carol Davies were delighted to meet Bridgend’s President Mrs Frances Rees at Bridgend’s 70th Anniversary at the Bear Hotel in Cowbridge in July. The Waterwheel Singers and professional soloist Rhianon Skilton entertained the party after the meal.
A few of us enjoyed a walk in Clyne Gardens in April and Carol Davies is next to the tree we planted in her year as joint president in 2015. Afterwards we retired to the Woodman for some sustenance.
President Angela and new member Becky Kelly welcomed speaker Prof Louise Miskell (right) to her first soroptimist dinner meeting. Louise spoke about the different regeneration projects to improve the many old industrial works in the Swansea valley. The members welcomed her very warmly and enjoyed the memories invoked by her talk.
