Imed Past Pres Kay’s Year 2014-15
I am immensely proud and feel especially privileged to be the Regional President for the South West and Channel Islands 2014-2015. I am sure that many of you, as I did, enjoyed the recent conference at Harrogate with its wide range of talented speakers and presentations. It is a really special event in our Soroptimist calendar to spend some quality time with our fellow club members, meet up with other clubs and friendship links and hopefully cement some new friendships along the way.
Of course conference always creates such an impact when displaying the tremendous work that is being done locally, nationally and internationally with the more successful projects being showcased in the Programme Awards. This never fails to amaze me and this year was certainly no exception. The AGM showed us that our Federation, although desperately wanting to sustain and indeed increase membership, was not quite confident enough to successfully vote for the associate membership, which was crafted and put together for conference by Ann Hodgson. The change of insignia evening was of course full of sparkle and razzamatazz as we welcomed our new Federation President Jenny Vince and her theme, Delivering the Difference. Afterwards was an opportune time to reflect on the successful conference, and have a good natter! Thank you to all that came and supported the evening. SI St. Austell did me proud and certainly helped to kick off my year with a bang!
Coming fresh from conference, I look forward to working with the region, to strive to improve and raise the profile of vulnerable women everywhere. If you have not been to a regional meeting before or perhaps not recently, please come along, as you will be warmly welcomed, get a chance to network with fellow delegates, see some interesting presentations and enjoy a tasty lunch!
My theme for the year is ‘Where there a Woman, there’s a Way!’ I don’t think there’s any doubt about that!
