SI Guernsey

Soroptimist International of Guernsey was chartered in 1980 and has around fifty members, including five who were ‘in at the start’ and are still active in the Club working alongside our newer members.

SI Guernsey is an active club providing service and support for local projects as well as nationally and internationally. There have been many initiatives to raise awareness of health, education and environmental issues which affect the lives of women and girls. Young people, people with disabilities and victims of domestic abuse in particular have received assistance.

Improving our Soroptimist profile is essential and recent publicity success for our ‘In Their Shoes’ exhibition, shoe boxes for female members of the military serving abroad, ‘Love Me, Love Me Not’ bookmarks and ‘credit cards’, encouraging those involved in GirlGuiding to think about the use of water, have shown we can do it! Show casing our work at the Women’s Development Forum has also brought us to a wider audience.

Friendship and fun, while fulfilling the objects of our organisation, prove a powerful tool in increasing our membership. Each month we hold a business meeting that includes time for our committees to plan their activities. There is also a supper meeting when we have a speaker followed by the chance to socialise.
