Soroptimist International of Guernsey was chartered in 1980 and has around forty members, including three who were ‘in at the start’ and are still active in the Club working alongside our newer members.
SI Guernsey is an active club providing service and support for local projects as well as nationally and internationally. There have been many initiatives to raise awareness of health, education and environmental issues which affect the lives of women and girls. Young people, people with disabilities and victims of domestic abuse in particular have received assistance.
Improving our Soroptimist profile is essential and we have had many recent publicity successes. ‘Love Me, Love Me Not’ bookmarks and credit cards continue to be given out encouraging wellbeing in women and girls. We assisted in the “Power of the Voice” where we held seminars to promote and help women to stand for election for the States of Guernsey – our Government.
Friendship and fun, while fulfilling the objects of our organisation, prove a powerful tool in increasing our membership. Each month we hold a business meeting that includes time for our committees to plan their activities. There is also a supper meeting when we have a speaker followed by the chance to socialise.
