[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As Soroptimists each year we have a Day of Action! Across the world we all take part in a common themed activity or local community service, on 16th July.\u00a0 Covid and lack of members has made this difficult recently, but this year, as the theme is Climate Change, Swindon Soroptimists decided to help out TWIGS Community Gardens in Swindon.<\/p>\n

Despite the heat 5 Club members and 2 friends met at 10am on Saturday 16th<\/sup> and spent over 2 hours watering, weeding, deadheading and tidying! \u00a0Member Jackie Webb armed herself with a wheel barrow and collected armfuls of weeds and our chief \u2018deadheader\u2019 was Gillian Reed who commented, \u201ceverything looks tidier and re-flowers if you deadhead the faded blooms!\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\" \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

TWIGS<\/a>\u00a0is a garden used to give to give people who experience mental health problems the chance to regain confidence, self-esteem and to learn new skills.\u00a0 They are dependent on volunteers so were delighted with our offer of help, particularly as they had an Open day on Sunday 17th July!!<\/p>\n

As Alan Holland from TWIGS, said \u201cThank you for your kind offer to come to volunteer for us at TWIGS . \u00a0This is the day before we open for the NGS on Sunday 17th.\u00a0\u00a0 I hope you all have an enjoyable time and many thanks for your valued contribution.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Member Corrine Daycock ensured all the plants due for Sale on the Open day were watered and members Valerie Nuttall and Lydia Cardew and her friends Jenny & Carole did copious amounts of weeding.\u00a0 As Club Project Officer Lydia commented, \u201c We have supported TWIGS for several years purchasing plants at their Open Days, so were pleased this time to be able to provide more practical help to such a worthy cause and do our bit for the environment!!\u201d<\/p>\n
