{"id":11,"date":"2011-09-25T17:49:45","date_gmt":"2011-09-25T16:49:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soroptimist-gbi.co.uk\/taunton\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2025-02-22T14:57:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-22T13:57:53","slug":"soroptimist-swimathon","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/taunton\/soroptimist-swimathon\/","title":{"rendered":"Soroptimist Swimathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">SWIMATHON 2025 15\/16th February 2025<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This will be the 34th Soroptimist Swimathon in Taunton and we have again partnered with the Taunton Round Table and the Taunton 41 Club.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 Swimathon raised \u00a316,528, making the total raised over the 32 years just over \u00a3677,000.\u00a0 This has been distributed among 78 local charities.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Swimathon will raising money for 3 local charities &#8211; Stand against Violence, Duke of Edinburgh&#8217;s Award Somerset Bursary committee and Taunton East Development Trust.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t matter whether you are 8 or 80 and whether you swim fast or slow, do crawl or doggy-paddle, so long as you can rustle up a team of six, you can take part in this Swimathon.\u00a0 It is one of the most successful fund raising events in the south west &#8211; since its inception in 1988 over \u00a3677,000 has been given directly to a variety of locally-based charities.<\/p>\n<p>Taunton School generously make their pool available each year for the two days of the Swimathon.\u00a0 Every swimmer gets a medal, and there are a number of trophies to be won for teams raising the most sponsorship money or swimming the most lengths.<\/p>\n<p>The Swimathon Committee said, &#8220;Teams from all over the Taunton community take part in our Swimathon, including Law firms, Accountancy firms, the Hydrographic Office, Musgrove Park Hospital, St Margaret&#8217;s Somerset Hospice, schools &#8211; and many, many more.\u00a0 It is a real community event, and there is a great buzz.\u00a0 Teams come back, year after year, and they always have a great time&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Come and join in the Swimathon; it&#8217;s the most fun you could have on a cold weekend in February &#8211; and you can get a rosy glow by raising some money for local good causes.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information send an e-mail request to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:taunton.swimathon@outlook.com\">Swimathon Email<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Your privacy is important to us.
