This was the brain child of Immediate Past President Judy Brew and was established in September 2012. It is now a joint venture with Tenby Inner Wheel.
The group meet once a week at Judy’s house for a weigh-in, coffee and support. We contribute the princely sum of £2 each week. As a result, there has been a loss of some eighty pounds of flesh and a net gain of over £520. So far this net gain has been used in the following ways:
£40 – sent to Voluntary Worker Helen Hills towards the projects and support provided by Care for Ugandain the Luwero District, involving Church volunteers from both Tenby and Neath. The Charity was founded in 2003 and currently operates in three main areas in Uganda: Bukasa, Banda and Bbowa, in order to provide much needed resources for these impoverished communities.
£50 – to provide prizes for the pupils of St Teilo’s Schol who entered the Regional Alcohol Abuse Competition. The competition forms part of an on-going regional project aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of alcohol abuse particularly amongst underage drinkers.
£50 – to help fund the taxi sticker campaign ‘Stop the Traffick’. The money was added to that contributed by SI Tenby Links Secretary Iris Davies in order to fund this very important campaign. Taxi drivers could be one of the few people that come into contact with victims of trafficking. A number of cases have emerged where taxis have been used to transport victims of trafficking to and from situations where they have been abused. To inform taxi drivers a sticker has been designed a sticker to put in taxis with information about trafficking and a helpline number. These stickers are now in every taxi in Pembrokeshire. The initiative was launched in August by SI Tenby in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council.
£100 – to pay for the rental of Ysgol Greenhill School Hall on October 18th in order to hold our Forum on Human Trafficking and Modern-day Slavery
£40 – to The Harriet Davis Trust
£40 – towards Inner Wheel Fund for Martin Griffiths – (wheelchair fund)
£50 – to help victims of Cumbria Flood Disaster
£50 – t0 Ty Hafan
And most recently – March 2017 – £100 to the Guides and Scout Hall in Tenby
