This charity was founded<br \/>\nfollowing the death of TV presenter Dianne Oxberry who died from ovarian cancer in January 2019. With just ten<br \/>\ndays between her diagnosis from the disease and her death, they are committed to raising awareness of the<br \/>\nimportance of early diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Sylvia told us she has spoken to many Soroptimist clubs via Zoom, and welcomed their support for the Trust.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that Dianne has been a news presenter on North West Tonight, and an investigative<br \/>\njournalist. Her husband and friends formed the Trust to raise awareness of the symptoms and the<br \/>\nneed for early diagnosis. Sylvia spoke of the Trust\u2019s <strong>SPREAD THE WORD<\/strong> campaign. Gill then<br \/>\nidentified some of the signs; if present for 3 weeks or more see your GP. Speed of diagnosis is the<br \/>\nsingle biggest factor in securing a positive outcome to an ovarian cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>W<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 weeing more often<br \/>\n<strong>O<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0overly bloated feeling<br \/>\n<strong>R<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0reduced appetite<br \/>\n<strong>D<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0dull ache or pain in pelvis or tummy<\/p>\n<p>Other signs to look out for are extreme tiredness\/fatigue, bleeding after menopause, painful sex.<\/p>\n<p>Gill also spoke about her own journey with ovarian cancer. A number of people have experienced problems in<br \/>\ngetting a diagnosis from their GP and attention needs to be given to this issue.<\/p>\n<p>Questions followed &#8211; As a small charity with limited funds, the Trust\u2019s focus is to raise awareness. The Trust and<br \/>\nthe national Target Ovarian Cancer support each other. The Trust also signposts to other relevant charities such<br \/>\nas Macmillan, Maggie Centres.
