Vote 100 conference


SI the Wrekin is holding a celebratory conference, funded through the centenary funds, as part of the centenary celebrations of women getting the vote. We are holding the conference on 10th November in the Glass Classroom Coalbrookdale 9.15 am- 1.15pm, with inspiring speakers who will be giving presentations on the suffragettes, women in activism, past and present, the empowerment of women and women in politics with additional presentations on human trafficking and from Axis. This type of conference is usually only held in the cities and is costly to attend, in securing the grant, and the speakers offering their time on an expenses only basis, the conference is free, pre-registration is necessary. There will also be a display of posters from the suffragists campaign and a display of silhouettes representing the 38 women who voted for the first time on 14th December 1918 to view after the presentations. This venue will transport you back to Victorian Britain when the workshops were still in use, the women of Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale worked tirelessly to ensure the factories continued to function during the First World War.
