The Equal Pay act and Sex Discrimination Act came into effect in 1975, largely due to the strike action of the determined women sewing machinists at the Ford Dagenham site. Germain Greer came on the scene with her book The Female Eunuch and Cosmopolitan magazine was launched in Britain. However there were still many issues surrounding women and girls, at home and around the world, in terms of equality and life opportunities at that time. Recognising this, a\u00a0 group of women from around the Wrekin got together to join\u00a0 Soroptimists International and in July 1976, Soroptimist International the Wrekin was founded.
