Programme Action 2017-18

Programme Action SI Tiverton and District

Our 3 chosen charities for this year are:-
  • kids who care Unite Kids Who Care (KWC Unite)This charity supports children as young as 5 to 16 who care for family members. In addition to providing support with regard to their caring activities, the charity aims to give the children some respite with days out etc when they can just be children. KWC – Testimonial

  • Sundarban LogoSundarban Support Group, (Tiverton)This charity funds education and health centres/workers in a village area of Northern Bangladesh. It is also supporting a local co-operative where the women and children will make and sell various products such as patchwork quilts. This will enable them to become partly self-sufficient. Sundarban – Testimonial

We continue to support CHAT (Churches Housing Action Team) donating food, personal and household items each month.

We volunteer at Singing To Remember, a group for dementia sufferers and their carers.

We also support the Make Lunch project which provides free lunches for children in the school holidays – in particular those who would normally receive free school meals.

In addition to supporting local charities we also support the Soroptimist Federation Project. For 2016 – 2019 this is the Meru Women’s Garden Project. This project will educate the women in Meru on sustainable farming thus empowering and enabling them to become self-sufficient.

Promoting Soroptimism is an important aspect of our work, and we have formed close contact with Petroc College and Blundell’s School. We also have displays at various times e.g. Freshers Fayre (Petroc), Tiverton Library, Tiverton Museum and Mid Devon Show.

During the year you may see us on the Bridge over the river Lowman or around the clock tower collecting for other charities. Last year we supported Childrens’ Hospice SW.

We aim to be women inspiring action and transforming lives.
