Charitable Superstores<\/h3>\n

We often complain about our superstores but Soroptimist Linda Churchward has found some exceptional information about their charitable work that should be applauded. She is going to share some of their positive news on this website.<\/p>\n

The Cooperative Local Community Fund.<\/p>\n

Since 2016, \u00a320 million has been raised. All the money goes to community projects. As a co-op member 1% of what you spend on selected own brand products goes to the local community fund. Money raised from the sale of shopping bags is also added. Members can choose which cause they want their 1% to go to. New causes are chosen every 12 months as long as they are not for profit. Spring 2018 is the next chance to apply for a share of the fund.<\/p>\n

One of the projects in action at the moment is called ‘Belong.’ One in three young people is lonely. This organisation brings young people together and gives them the tools to tackle loneliness. The Co-op encourages many charities to work together to improve things locally and nationally. 5000 disadvantaged young people will get help to be more involved in their communities.<\/p>\n

The Co-op is one of several sponsors that supports Cary Park Tennis Club. They gave cash to buy a mechanical ball machine for coaching purposes. In fact, they gave three times the amount that was asked for. The club has offered free tennis tuition to 7 Junior Schools and they’ve introduced 500 children to tennis and the idea of being active. 100 adults are also playing there.
