{"id":220,"date":"2012-04-18T21:10:58","date_gmt":"2012-04-18T20:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/?p=220"},"modified":"2013-11-06T10:04:44","modified_gmt":"2013-11-06T09:04:44","slug":"2012-cheque-presentation-to-devon-in-sight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/2012\/04\/18\/2012-cheque-presentation-to-devon-in-sight\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 Cheque Presentation to Devon in Sight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2012\/04\/1-IMG_6501.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-221\" src=\"\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2012\/04\/1-IMG_6501-300x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2012\/04\/1-IMG_6501-300x233.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2012\/04\/1-IMG_6501.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Martin Pallett said \u2018he was incredibly grateful\u2019 when presented with a cheque for \u00a31000 at the Torquay &amp; District Soroptimist International AGM .\u00a0 President Veronica Prowse was thrilled to be able to present\u00a0 this cheque to Martin Pallett who is Director of Services for the Charity Devon in Sight.<\/p>\n<p>Devon in Sight is a long running charity supporting people in Devon experiencing sight loss, previously known as the Devon County Association for the Blind.\u00a0 The Devon in Sight is a Resource Centre and Charity based at Station House, Topsham.<\/p>\n<p>Ten months ago Martin Pallett and Cherrie Crook who is a Volunteer Co-ordinator attended a Speaker Meeting at Rosegarth the home of the Torquay &amp; District Soroptimist International.\u00a0 Martin gave a brief demonstration of some of the kitchen, household and everyday equipment available to make life easier for visual impaired people and enable them lead independent lives.\u00a0 One of the most useful being a gadget that makes a sound when a cup or container that you are pouring liquid into is nearly full.<\/p>\n<p>Following this interesting and informative meeting it was decided that members would like to support the charity by organising some fund raising events.\u00a0 Since then they \u00a0have sold raffle tickets, raised money from a book stall at Cockington Fayre &amp; the Agatha Christie Fete and enjoyed many social events to raise funds for this worthy charity.<\/p>\n<p>Members were keen\u00a0 to be updated with Devon in Sight news and events with special mention of\u00a0 the Road Show in Paignton which they plan to repeat\u00a0 across the rest of the county over the next 12 months.\u00a0 Martin left the March newsletter and leaflets and encouraged members to support Deborah;\u00a0 a lady from Exmouth who has very limited sight only in one eye.\u00a0\u00a0 On the 21<sup>st<\/sup> May Deborah\u00a0 is climbing and walking the six kilometres from the bottom to the very top of Snowdon to raise money for Devon in Sight.\u00a0 Deborah is very excited about the challenge although she has never done anything like it before!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martin Pallett said \u2018he was incredibly grateful\u2019 when presented with a cheque for \u00a31000 at&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":157,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-220","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-club-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>2012 Cheque Presentation to Devon in Sight | News | Blog | Events | SI Torquay and District<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"SI Torquay and District : Blog &amp; News : 2012 Cheque Presentation to Devon in Sight : Keep up to date with the latest news, articles and events from the Soroptimists of SI Torquay and District .
