{"id":467,"date":"2015-11-14T19:02:36","date_gmt":"2015-11-14T19:02:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/?p=467"},"modified":"2015-11-14T19:05:43","modified_gmt":"2015-11-14T19:05:43","slug":"2015-bags-of-love-for-marys-meals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/2015\/11\/14\/2015-bags-of-love-for-marys-meals\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 Bags of Love for Mary\u2019s Meals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/bag-packs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-430\" src=\"\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/bag-packs-283x300.jpg\" alt=\"bag packs\" width=\"283\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/bag-packs-283x300.jpg 283w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/bag-packs.jpg 336w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/a>Many children receiving Mary\u2019s Meals don\u2019t have basic learning tools such as pencils and notepads.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay &amp; District SI decide to support this worthy cause so that children could get the most out of their lessons by donating backpacks full of the things they need. \u00a0For many, a Mary\u2019s Meals backpack will be the only gift they\u2019ll have ever had.<\/p>\n<p>Spare backpacks were brought from home and members appealed to the wider community for donations, wherever possible we bought things from charity shops or upcycle items we already owned.<\/p>\n<p>Before long, we had filled 15 backpacks which were collected and sent off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/soroptimist-bag-packing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-426\" src=\"\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/soroptimist-bag-packing-300x157.jpg\" alt=\"soroptimist bag packing\" width=\"411\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/soroptimist-bag-packing-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/torquay-and-district\/files\/2015\/11\/soroptimist-bag-packing.jpg 961w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 411px) 100vw, 411px\" \/><\/a>Packing such <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marysmeals.org.uk\/get-involved\/the-backpack-project\/what-to-pack\">basic items<\/a> gave us all a real sense of achievement at being able to arrange something relatively simply, that will make such a profound difference to children living in poverty too.
